Skills demonstrated in first through sixth grades include:

  • Using the basic principles of art
  • Developing problem solving skills
  • Developing motor skills
  • Looking at and discussing famous works of art
  • Learning new techniques used in creating works of art
  • Learning to think critically
  • Using their knowledge of art principles to critique other works of art

Concepts to be learned involve the following artistic ideas

  • Line
  • Shape
  • Color
  • Texture
  • Pattern

A variety of mediums are used to accomplish desired projects. Special projects are designed at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. A culminating activity is an Art Exhibition here at VCS which encompasses a display of student work done throughout the year.

Students are encouraged to participate in the Lower Moreland community art program which is a photo contest. VCS students have won ribbons for their efforts at this event.

Art Goes to School is another local program which comes to our school annually in the spring. Students view and critique famous works of art.
