What is Great Lakes Scrip?
Great Lakes Scrip is an organization that
buys scrip in bulk at a discounted price and passes the discount to
schools or other organizations.
What is Scrip?
Scrip is gift certificates, which could be in the form of a gift card,
or the traditional paper kind.
How is Scrip used?
Just like cash. This means that you just present them for payment at
the register without any restrictions.
How do I place an order?
Simply fill out an order form and send it in with your child by the
next scrip deadline. All orders will be placed online through the Great
Lakes Scrip website by the scrip coordinator.
Can I place my own order online?
At this time, individual families cannot place orders online through GL
Scrip. However, this feature will be coming soon. It is currently in the
testing phase with a few selected schools participating. When this program
is available to VCS, it will be mentioned in the Valley Voice.
How do I get an order form?
In the beginning of each month, a new form will be sent home with the
Valley Voice. Also, a new form will be included with your filled scrip
order.
I noticed a percentage next to each merchant. What does it mean?
The percentage is the discount that the merchant is offering. For
example, the percentage for ShopRite is 4%. If you order a $100
denomination, the discount would be $4.00. This discount is your savings.
How do I get the discount?
The scrip is purchased at face value and the discount is kept in an
account under your name. You receive your discount in the spring when the
amount from your account is deducted from either your family’s April
and/or May tuition payment.
How will I know how much to deduct?
Each Great Lakes Scrip participant will receive a statement around
Easter break showing the detail of scrip purchases made since April of the
previous year. Included in this statement is the amount to deduct from
your tuition payment. The statements will be sent home the week of April
9th.
Do families really earn a significant amount for this program to be
worthwhile?
The amount varies depending on how often an order is placed or amount
of the order. Some families utilize the program only at Christmas, while
others use it on a regular basis. In the past, the amount was anywhere
from $2.00 to $937.00. The average family earns approximately $150-$200
towards tuition.
This discount sounds great, but I rather give the money back to the
school. Can I do this?
Yes. Just indicate on the form when you place your first order that you
wish the discount to go to VCS.
My family receives financial aid. Am I still able to participate in the
scrip program?
Yes
How much does Valley Christian make on this scrip program?
Nothing. 100% of the proceeds go back to the families that participate
through tuition reduction. (Unless you designate VCS to receive the
discount)
Why do I have to pay an additional $1.00 to cover shipping & handling?
Since Great Lakes Scrip utilizes Federal Express to send us the scrip
orders, it can be very costly for the school. By adding a $1.00 with your
order, this will help defray the cost.
Do the scrip have expiration dates?
Some do, most do not. Please refer to the actual scrip to determine if
and when it expires. You may also find out any restrictions through
www.glscrip.com and selecting retailer list.
How often can I place an order?
The scrip orders are due every other week, except around Christmas time
in which it would be weekly. You may place an order as seldom or often as
you wish.
How long does it take to get my order?
Please allow 3 business days to receive your order. During the
Christmas months, please allow an extra day due to increased volume. The
order will be sent home with the oldest child unless instructed otherwise.
What happens if an item is backordered?
We have never had a backorder from Great Lakes Scrip. However, we can’t
say that would never happen. If it does, the backorder will be sent with
the next regular order. If for some reason they would be unable to fill
the backorder, you will be issued a refund.
Can I use the scrip for online purchases?
Yes, most of the scrip can be used for online purchases. Please visit
http://www.shopwithscrip.com/
to place your order. Your checks will still need to be sent in to
VCS on or before the due date published in the Valley Voice.
Scrip orders are now regularly due on the second & fourth Wednesdays of
each month.
If you do order online, log onto
http://www.boxtops4education.com first to see if the company you wish
to order from is listed. Make sure that you select Valley Christian School
before ordering. By making your purchases this way, it will benefit the
school.
